We are in conversation with Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, WA for the site of the 2011 Bible Quiz Finals. WEST MORRIS STREET TOURNAMENT The date for the Regional Tournament at West Morris Street, Indianapolis, IN will be May 2, 2009. I have received a number of e-mails asking whether the date had been changed. Greenville College had requested that we change the date due to the conflict with Agapefest on that weekend. However, the W. Morris Street FMC does not want to host the tournament on the same weekend as Mother’s Day. As a result, the tournament will remain on May 2, 2009. NATIONAL RANKINGS UPDATED… CURRENT AS OF 1/1/09 http://www.fmquizzing.org/stats/national.shtml Lyle is working on compiling the rankings following the January tournaments. AN UPDATE FROM MIKE HOPPER REGARDING HIS RECOVERY This past Sunday, I enjoyed the opportunity to give the Sunday morning message in both worship services at the Fillmore Church. Though I had a stool beside me in case I got tired and needed to sit, I did not use it. (I did take a three-hour nap that afternoon.) During the previous two weeks, I had helped lead worship (praying, etc), but this was the first Sunday since the heart surgery to preach. In the past few weeks, I have also done administrative church work, and some home and sporting event visitation. My six-week check up at Mayo Clinic took place the next day (Monday, February 2nd). In the morning, my heart was examined through an echocardiogram, EKG, and a CAT scan. In the afternoon, my wife and I met with the surgeon. Dr. Suri told us that "the valve was perfect" and that my scars seem to be healing appropriately. There are a couple of areas of concern, and I mention these to you for your continued prayers. My blood pressure is high at this time, and is to be monitored on a weekly basis. In addition, the ventricular ejection fraction is only at 30-35 %. The hope is that this figure will raise up to about 50%. (Ejection fraction is a measurement of the capacity at which one's heart is pumping.) During the recovery process, my strength has increased significantly as well as my lung power. My voice was strong throughout the preaching on Sunday, and seems to have returned to normal. I would estimate that my body recovery is now at about 80 %. There has been good progress, but there is still a ways to go. The Apostle Paul wrote: "Serve wholeHEARTedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does...." Ephesians 6:7-8) My desire is to serve God with all my heart and with a strong and healthy heart. Thanks so much for your prayers, and please continue to pray for me. Mike
